Reminding the UPA of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s promise to not allow terrorist activities to be launched from its soil, BJP president L K Advani today asked New Delhi to exert pressure on Islamabad to destroy militant training camps there in the wake of the Srinagar and Ayodhya attacks.

‘‘This commitment was made when Vajpayeeji (then prime minister of the NDA) travelled to Islamabad to attend the SAARC summit. Pakistan should respect the commitment now,’’ said Advani, while addressing a Kargil Vijay Diwas rally here.

Advani demanded that the UPA government should exert pressure on Musharraf to crack down on the Laskhar-E-Toiba (LeT), which is launching fresh attacks from its headquarters at Muridke near Lahore.

Advani said that the spurt in infiltration from across the border, increased violence in J&K and the Ayodhya attack point towards the LeT renewing efforts to destabilise India.

The former Deputy Prime Minister said that during the previous NDA rule, Pakistan was clearly told that there cannot be any compromise with terrorism.

‘‘Realising that, Pakistan agreed to shun terrorism and General Musharraf announced that terrorism would not be allowed from its territory. Now Pakistan needs to be told about curbing the activities of LET,’’ he added.
