145;Ash is so petite while I have such big shoulders146;

The Bong Bombshell talks to HARNEET SINGH on the raunchy item number in Omkara, rumours of her rift with John Abraham and problems with Kareena Kapoor

.

They say you8217;re the latest item girl in town?

Definitely not. In Omkara, I was playing the role of a dancer and that8217;s why I did all these dance numbers. And unlike other item songs, both my numbers were quite classy. I8217;ve always had a lot of mind blocks regarding Bollywood dance numbers. It8217;s partly to do with the fact that I am not a trained dancer and also because some of these songs are picturised in a peculiar cheesy fashion. As an actor, I can control my costumes and movements but shooting a dance number is such a team effort. I8217;ve seen some songs where men are shown licking the girl and the camera angles focus on the heroine8217;s butt and bust line. Full credit to Vishal Bharadwaj that he shot the songs so well.

But I believe shooting the B Be ee ed di i song was quite a harrowing experience?

Not harrowing but yeah, initially I was shocked. It wasn8217;t easy dancing in front of 200 unshaven men who looked like bandits. Anyone would have been apprehensive. I discussed it with Saif and he told me not to worry and told me to just concentrate on the music. I did just that.

Are you comfortable with your newly found status of a heroine?

I don8217;t like the word heroine. I want to be known as an actor but I know what you mean. I can fit into two different zones8212;of a Dhoom 2 and a Corporate. On the other hand, you have actors like Tabu who are so talented but somehow they get into a slot where people think they can8217;t do glamourous roles. I feel so sad. I8217;m lucky that I can look like a Plain Jane in Corporate, a tarot card reader in Rakht, a scientist in Rudraksh and a village dancer in Omkara. The only thing I can8217;t see myself do is a television serial.

Were you apprehensive about shooting with Kareena Kapoor as there is no love lost between both of you since Ajnabee?

Actually, I had nothing to do with Kareena in the film. And I have never had a problem with her. I don8217;t mind working with anybody. I can even play her sister in a film, only that we don8217;t look like sisters.

Is your new short crop for a new film?

Well, I cut my hair like any other human being. But yeah, this style is a part of my look for the forthcoming Abbas Mustan film. Since childhood, I8217;ve always wanted to have short hair. From Ajnabee to Omkara, I think I8217;ve done just about everything with long hair. Be it crimp, fringe, perm, razor cut, red, black, ironed, name it and I have flaunted it. I just needed a refreshing change.

So tell me who8217;s the sexier one in Dhoom 2, you or Aishwarya Rai?

You can8217;t compare. We have different body types and faces. And even our target audience is very different. Ash is so petite while I8217;ve such big shoulders. You can8217;t pitt us against each other to get some obnoxious quote.

That8217;s not an answer.

Ash is looking very different in Dhoom 2. In totality, both of us are looking good. Actually, I8217;m proud of Ash. She8217;s the only Indian actor who is known internationally and I love that. Anything for woman power!

There are lots of rumours about trouble between you and John Abraham?

So?

So, how are things?

They were always great and they are still great. I admit that we went through two weeks of intense media scrutiny but that also showed us a different side of life. The kind of mails and love we got from fans were amazing. I think the media put more worries on the fans. As I see it, our fans respect us for being honest about our relationship. Anyway, there are always 20 people who run you down and 80 who stand by you. We8217;d rather focus on those 80.

But did this crisis bring you and John clos-er?

Absolutely. We have always been very close anyway, but now we have learnt to tide over anything. Our relationship is for us to know and as long as we say that we8217;re happy together, people should respect that. I mean, it8217;s two people8217;s life. Even if there is a problem tomorrow, it8217;s not going to cause national calamity. So, what8217;s the big deal?

Any plans of marriage?

It8217;s a five-year plan.

What8217;s the immediate plan?

See, I8217;m not an ambitious person. I8217;m very content where I am. There is no need to get from Point A to Point B. I8217;m enjoying my profession. I8217;m happy that people know my name and respect me for my work. I8217;m going to be in the industry for the next couple of years. I might get into film-making, writing, restaurant business or even branding.

How long before you do a love story with one of the Khans?

Ask the Khans. I would love to work with Aamir. He knows I8217;m a big fan of his.
