They say it is their journey towards purity, serenity, balance, expression, simplicity and sincerity. Four neo-artists with a fresh palette have toyed with a Kaleidoscope’ of ideas and idioms, which are to be on display from November 27 to 30 at the Inn Galleria at Holiday Inn.
Tina Shah, Dhanashree Bafna, Datta Thube and Rahul Purandare, who passed out from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya early this year, are brimming over with nascent talent. The dewy-fresh colours, the modernist technique and neat presentation say it all. The common thread between the artists’ work is the enthusiastic outlook each one seems to possess, since none of the canvases bear sombre or dull hues, but concentrate on all that’s bright and beautiful. Moreover, the inspiration from the renowned French Impressionists is obvious in all the works.
However, this is where the similarity ends and the individual journey begins. Dhanashree Bafna’s oils on canvas are mostly portraits surrounded by a theme. “I try to look at a particular character and understand him in association with everything around him,” she says. Her works are colourful and evocative, and very reflective for a 21-year-old.
Tina Shah’s attractive oils are replete with meaningful forms, which emerge simply from the play of colours, done with a lot of style. Cubes of paint in different shades are placed along the canvas by the artist, lending a busy effect.
Thube Datta’s works are results of a dream-like vision. His canvasses use the cloudy effect to portray a scene or emotion and predominantly feature women. The colours are applied with a light hand.
The most elegant of them all is probably Rahul Purandare, whose works are symbolised by bold strokes in vibrant colours, and have the ability to brighten up any space. Purandare’s still-life paintings are small, dexterous images of everyday objects suffused with light and colour.
Professor Pandurang Tathe, who has groomed the four budding artists, is the inspiration behind the spirited effort. “Without him, we would never have been able to organise an exhibition with so much confidence. He is responsible for what we are today,” they say. Tathe will inaugurate the exhibition of his protegees, who are looking towards a bright future.
