The Army seized 23 kg of explosives during search operations at different places in Rajouri and Doda district today, while a top militant of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Bhaderwah tehsil of Doda district.

It was during a search operation in Sungli area of Bhaderwah tehsil that troops stumbled upon a militant hideout and seized 20 kgs of explosives, 195 rounds, 13 magazines, one AK rifle, 13 detonators and some IEDs.

A tehsil commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was also killed in an encounter with security forces in Katari Gali area of Bhaderwah tehsil in Doda today.

The encounter followed a search operation in the area. The slain militant was identified as Mohammad Hafiz alias Danish, a resident of Kotli. His accomplice managed to flee the scene. The seizure from the encounter site included an AK-47 with three magazines, and a wireless set.

Security forces also busted a hideout in the Bhaderwah heights and seized large quantities of ration and blankets dumped by militants for their survival during the winter months. In another operation in the Rajouri forest, security forces apprehended one Sain Samual for tipping off militants on the movement of security personnel in the area. When nabbed, Samual was carrying ration and arms and ammunition to militants hiding nearby. After interrogation, Samual was handed over to police, they said.
