An IAF MiG-27 which went missing is believed to have crashed between its parent base, Hashimara and Bagdogra. While IAF8217;s official spokesman stated that the aircraft was missing, sources said the aircraft had in all probability crashed in the jungles near Bagdogra.

The aircraft, piloted by Flying Officer Sinha, took off from Hashimara in the morning and was on its way to Bagdogra. However, the last communication from the pilot came when the aircraft was near Bagdogra.

While the IAF deployed two Mi-8 helicopters for search and rescue, efforts had to be abandoned due to bad weather. Officials also pointed out that the thick jungle was also hampering operations. According to the official spokesman, search operations would resume on Thursday morning.
