HYDERABAD, JULY 10: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has demanded that President rule be imposed in the State to ensure free and fair elections.
In a memorandum to President K R Narayanan, a copy of which was released to the press here on Saturday, the party, citing various acts "omissions and commissions" of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Government, said imposition of President rule would prevent Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu from abusing his position to retain power by giving false promises, which would be broken subsequently with a heavy burden on the exchequer and which were against the "constitutional principles and rule of law".
The party alleged that the Government’s new scheme for provision of gas connections to the rural poor was aimed at influencing the voters at the time of elections.
It also alleged that even the electoral rolls were tampered with to include ten to 15 per cent voters.
