MUMBAI, August 15: Two bullet-ridden bodies of Arun Gawli aides were found near Dockyard Road railway station on the Central Railway on Saturday morning by the police. At around 8 am, an anonymous caller told the police that a dead body was lying atop a water tank of the Central Railway Quarters block no 13. Byculla police took the body into their custody. The body was riddled with at least 15 bullet injuries. On his person was a driver's licence, which identified the man as Prakash Kashinath Bhoir. However, the driver's license was found to be fake and the deceased was actually Arun Gawli's associate, Pandurang Mandvi.Even before the police had finished their panchnamas, they were told that another body in similar condition was lying on the railway tracks at Dockyard Road station. Since the tracks do not fall under the jurisdiction of the city police, the railway police were informed. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) police took the body into custody, where a body search revealed a driver'slicense identifying him as Shrikant Prabhakar Salunkhe. However, the deceased was later identified as Gawli aide, Sudhir Surve.Since both bodies were recovered within the distance of 50 mt, Crime Branch officers suspect it was the handiwork of the same person or the same group.``The murders could be a fallout of either inter-gang rivalry or even intra-gang rivalry. The latter seems to be the stronger reason,''said an assistant commissioner of police.Mandvi and Surve were both absconding since 1990 and were wanted in several cases of murder and extortion. Together, the duo had killed Shiv Sena leader Ramesh More, Sunil Gavande, Suresh Mane and Raju Patil, son of former MLA, Dina Bama Patil.Since both took to crime in the early 80s under the tutelage of Ashok Joshi from Kanjur Marg, they were considered part of `Kanjur Company.' Of late, they had fallen foul with the Gawli gang and had begun acting on their own.Their killing is suspected to be the fallout of a dispute over a financial matterbrewing in the gang.
