Police said a man was shot at a gasoline station near Fredericksburg, Virginia, on Friday, and media reports said he later died of his wounds in a local hospital.
The shooting touched off a renewed hunt for a white van, as investigators searched for a sniper who has killed seven people and wounded two others in a week-long murder spree.
However, police said they could not confirm a connection between Friday’s shooting and the series of sniper attacks in the Washington, D.C., area. Two of the sniper’s victims were killed at area gasoline stations. “We’re on the lookout for a white Chevrolet Astro van,” said a police spokeswoman. (Reuters)
