A suspected killer of Biranchi Das, who was arrested in Bhopal on Tuesday, confessed that a supari (contract) of Rs 10 lakh was given to kill the former coach of child prodigy Budhia Singh, police said.
“We have informed the Cuttack Police about the arrest of Chagla and after their confirmation only we would be in a position to tell that the arrested person is the killer of Biranchi Das,” Inspector General of Police, Bhopal, Shailendra Shrivastava said.
Chagla was arrested from the office of a private TV channel, after he briefed them about his identity and whereabouts, police said.
Chagla claimed he was one of the four members of the Raja group who had taken ‘supari’ to eliminate the 40-year-old judo trainer for Rs 10 lakh.
It was actually one Sunder Rai, who shot dead the coach on April 13 in Bhubaneshwar, he claimed.
The suspected killer told police that he reached Bhopal via Kolkata, where he lost nearly Rs 1 lakh. He told police that he arrived in Bhopal a few days back and was staying in a hotel near the railway station from where he made a call to the private TV channel’s office.
Police are now investigating the exact cause behind killing of Biranchi Das.
