LONDON, JANUARY 10: Veteran actor Michael Caine has launched a new career as a novelist — but he will be holding on to the day job.

He is now busy rewriting his debut thriller after realising that one of the characters got killed twice.

“I’ve got to the end in a mad dash. Now I’ve got to go back and do it properly,” he told reporters.

And he joked: “There are no authors like Martin Amis or any other great writers trembling in their boots at the thought I am writing this.”

Caine, whose gangster roles in Mona Lisa and Get Carter were among his most memorable, revealed his literary ambitions when announcing details of his latest film role as a boxing promoter and small-time gangster in Shiner.
