APRIL 23: Officials of Anti-Corruption Bureau ACB arrested a police sub inspector PSI attached to Khar police station while accepting Rs 21,000 as bribe from an electronic shop on Thursday.

The accused PSI Vijay Bhimrao Belge 32 had raided Mohammed Umer Siddique8217;s 32 cassette shop at Saifee Jubilee Street at Masjid Bunder following a complaint by another shop owner Mohammed Ashfaq Abdullah that Siddique had bought stolen 100 stolen audio cassettes.

Abdullah denied he bought any stolen cassettes. In spite of his denial and the police constables failing to find any cassettes, Belge threatened to file a case if Siddique failed to pay Rs 1 lakh.

The bribe amount was scaled down to Rs 21,000 after the complainant, who knew Belge, mediated between them. The PSI asked Abdullah to bring the money to Khar police station and Siddique was asked to collect the bribe. The ACB caught Siddique while accepting the money from Abdullah and Belge. The PSI and Siddique were produced before Additional ChiefMetropolitan Magistrate A A A Kidwai who remanded them to judicial custody till April 26.
