Lashing out at actor Aamir Khan for his comments on Vadodara riots, the Gujarat BJP today said “this is an insult to the people of the state”.
BJP state general secretary Purushottam Rupala said in a statement that the actor’s remarks against Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat government were made without understanding the ground realities.
“The actor should apologise to the people of Gujarat for his remarks,” he demanded.
During an interview to BBC Asian Network’s Hindi/Urdu show, Khan had said, “I think it is (Vadodara) very sad and what happened in Gujarat a few years ago was also equally unfortunate. It’s a shame that the administration is not able to control the situation there and it is resulting in deaths of innocent people”.
He had also criticised Modi government for its “failure” to control the violence in Vadodara.
“His remarks are aimed at disturbing the peace in Gujarat,” Rupala alleged. “If Aamir Khan is worried about law and order situation, why is he not condemning the killing of innocent people in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir?” he asked.
“Khan, who has joined hands with Medha Patkar of Narmada Bachao Andolan (protesting against Narmada dam) will not succeed in his attempt to defame the state,” he added.
