CHANDIGARH, Oct 19: "I recall those days of innocence, when there was no pretence, the world was without any semblance, no one was filled with insolence…" These are the lines from the poem, A Wish that has been penned down by Jyoti Nayar, a multifaceted personality whose English novels and poetry books will soon be hitting the international, as well as the national markets, and who has also signed a Hindi film for which she has written the lyrics. Many of her songs are waiting to be released in albums by people like Anand Milind, Abhijit, and Anu Malik.

A resident of Manimajra, 47-year-old Jyoti has done her M.Phil in American Literature. She says, "Writing has been in my family. My grandmother was a good writer and so was my mother, but they never thought of publishing their work." Nayar, who has also been a lecturer in various colleges, says she always had a passion for writing but it was only when seven years back she was introduced by Gulshan Kumar as a lyricist, did she think of changing her passion into a profession.

Nayar has been signed to pen the lyrics for Akash Ganga Productions’ Mere Sajan Ka Dil Ghayal and the film will be released soon. She has also written the lyrics for Ma Ka Bulava last year. She says there is another album on the anvil. Nayar says that as far as songs are concerned, she loves melodious numbers and that’s what is reflected in her poetry, both English and Hindi. She has so far written 1,400 Hindi songs which have been registered by the Film Writers’ Association, Mumbai.

Her book, Mystery Unveiled, which presents her collection of 50 poems, has been approved by the Minerva Press of London and is in the final stages of printing. When asked about the age group that she has targeted, she says, "I believe that my work is readable for every person who likes to read and I am sure that it would meet the expectations of every person who goes through my poems." She says that her poems are related to various aspects of humanity and have a streak of melancholy.

Nayar has also written a novel, A Lurking Panic, that will be brought out by the Minerva Press of London some time next year. The novel is a "blend of mysticism, human psychology and sex," in the words of Jyoti Nayar. She is currently writing another novel, A Cracked Vision, of which 19 chapters have already been completed. Another novel in the process of completion is, To Alex From Durga.

She says she writes in an environment she terms as "silence and not stillness" and at times she even gets up in the middle of the night to write. As for the moment, Jyoti is waiting for the release of her books and her cherished dream is to win the Booker Prize some day.
