Bazm-e-Ghazal, a calendar released on the occasion of Sawai Gandharva Festival for 2009 by Sateesh Paknikar, will pay homage to ghazal maestros
Talat Mehmood, in a trance and just before his messianic scatting is about to fill the air, the camera clicks and freezes the moment, making it last an eternity. And it8217;s not only Talat Mehmood but also nine other jewels from the treasure trove of ghazal maestros who, while engrossed in their art, have been captured in a frame. All these musical moods will come together in industrial photographer Sateesh Paknikar8217;s calendar to be released today at the Sawai Gandharva Festival.
Says Paknikar, 8221;In the course of my assignments as an industrial photographer, I came across many personalities whose photographs I had taken. I realised that these personalities were popular and their fans would like to keep their photographs with them. That8217;s how I hit upon the idea of presenting a calendar with these personalities who had left their mark on the international scene.8221;
For the coming year to pay a tribute to the ghazal maestros, Paknikar has come up with the calendar Bazm-e-ghazal that carries photographs of Pakistani and Indian ghazal maestros. The doyens from the ghazal world find their imprints on the 12 x 26 inches wall calendar. Also, on the right side of the date section, the introduction of every ghazal singer has been given whereas the left side in calligraphy flaunts the lines from one of their famous ghazals.
8220;I have chosen Mehdi Hassan, Fareeda Khanum, Abeeda Parveen, Talat Mehmood and Ghulam Ali, among others. This is based on a small survey I conducted with music lovers,8221; elaborates Paknikar.
Even earlier, Paknikar has released six calendars based on various themes. But talking about the current theme, The Ghazal Singers, he says, 8220;This portrait gallery includes those whose photographs were available with me- either captured by my own lens or by someone else8217;s. The selection includes both8212; Indian and Pakistani singers, popular in both nations. Music knows no political or geographical divisions and it is this message that I want to convey.8221; While some photographs were taken especially for the calendar over the past year, most of them have been taken over a period of time.
