KOZHIKODE, JAN 16: A six-year-old girl was killed in a bomb attack in the Nadapuram area in the district today which witnessed fresh violence involving CPI-M and Indian Union Muslim League workers, taking the toll in the clashes since last Thursday to three.

Police identified the child as Neethu, daughter of one Asokan, stated to be a CPI-M sympathiser.

The child was playing in the courtyard of the house when a group of suspected IUML supporters hurled a bomb at the house. She was rushed to the Government Hospital at Badagara where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Clashes between CPI-M and IUML workers since last week had claimed the lives of a DYFI worker and IUML activist.

Despite peace efforts, the area continued to be tense, police said.

A cinema theatre, a shop and a toddy shop were torched in Nadapuram last night.

A strong contingent of police had been posted in the area. Director General of Police P R Chandran visited the affected areas.
