In a new twist to the issue of anti-Bihari violence in Assam which has taken 56 lives so far, the North East Students Organisation (NESO), a powerful student umbrella body, today claimed that more than 50 girl passengers were molested in Bihar and demanded the resignation of Railways Minister Nitish Kumar.
‘‘The Railway minister should accept moral responsibility for the gruesome attack on passengers in Bihar for 10 hours on November 12 and resign,’’ NESO general secretary N.S.N. Lotha said.
He added that NESO had served an ultimatum to the Centre to ensure cent per cent job reservation for locals in the Central Government sector by December 14 or else a 72-hour hunger strike would be launched in all N-E state capitals to be followed by a call of North-East bandh.
The student leader alleged that while more than 50 girl students were molested at Jamalpur station, one of them was even paraded naked.
Seven Naga girls in a statement recently in Kohima confessed they were sexually molested and there are more girls who are now coming out and admitting they were victims of the crime, Lotha said.
He alleged that despite the claim by RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav that the culprit responsible for raping a girl would be punished and a photograph of his has been sent to the victim for identification, no such action has been taken.
