
Four persons, including three of a family, were killed and two boys seriously injured when a cabin of a ropeway car hit another on the way to the Palani hill shrine on Sunday evening. Police said two officials of the state cooperative milk society Aavin, Vadamalai Chetty 54, Managing Director of Dindigul branch and Subramanian 56, General Manager of Chennai branch, his wife Amutha 45 and daughter Nitya 15 were killed on the spot in the impact of the collision. Subramanian8217;s two sons suffered serious injuries and have been hospitalised.
According to police, the victims were occupying the second cabin of the three-cabin rope car. On the way, the cabin lost its hold with the cable and collided with the third one.
A temple official said there was a loud noise and the second cabin zipped down colliding with the third. People in the other two cabins were reported to be safe. This is the second accident in the cable car since its inception two years ago.
