Mumbai Confidential: Another Extension

A COMMITTEE of all-party MLAs to examine reported plantation of 33 crore trees during the previous Devendra Fadnavis government from 2014-’19 was formed in 2021 after there were allegations of misleading numbers. However, the report is yet to be presented. The committee since then has been receiving extensions to submit its report. On Friday, the committee received yet another extension till the end of next legislative session.

IN THE Vidhan Parishad last week, Sena UBT leader Anil Parab found that the spectacles kept on his desk did not belong to him. When another opposition leader claimed that even his spectacles were changed, Parab told deputy chairperson Neelam Gorhe that there should be an inquiry about the magician who is changing spectacles of leaders in the House. Gorhe said that her spectacles are in tact and that maybe it was an indication that the Sena UBT leaders need to change the way they look at things, triggering a laughter in the House.

Legal Loopholes

CHANGE IN circumstances is a legal ground for the accused while seeking bail or other reliefs. Lawyers in a Mumbai court, including prosecutors representing the state and central agencies, were heard discussing NCP leaders joining the government and the fate of the pending cases against them. Would joining the government be considered a change in circumstances, they mused jokingly.
