From Kalaripayattu and conch blowing to yoga and agility training — name it, and Vidyut Jammwal has likely mastered it. So, naturally, we asked him about his famously intense workout regimen and his lifelong commitment to healthy living, which he describes as a “human duty”.
In an exclusive interaction with indianexpress.com, the Force actor opened up about what fitness really means to him, why his diet is never restrictive, the truth about fitness myths, and how he approaches both style and stardom. Read the edited excerpts below:
Vidyut Jammwal: Fitness, to me, is a human duty –– an obligation to awaken and use every cell in the body. It’s not just about discipline; it’s about transforming yourself into a finely-tuned being, ready to perform at your happiest. And it’s the only kind of ‘reboot’ where you come back even more powerful.
Vidyut Jammwal: Simple yet not easy. I just show up and do what I’ve committed to, in line with how I envision my best self. No frills, just consistency.
Vidyut Jammwal: I work out enough to relish everything I eat. For me, it’s all about balance. What’s the point of looking good if you can’t celebrate with your tastebuds?

Vidyut Jammwal: That there’s one universal ‘best’ way to do it. The truth is, the ‘best’ form of fitness is the one that works for you personally. It’s all about finding your own path
Vidyut Jammwal: It’s not just about looking sharp. I think my style reflects my personality — authentic and confident. I dress in a way that feels like me. A good pair of jeans, like the ones from Spykar’s Chico line, just fit right and carry that effortless attitude I relate to.
Vidyut Jammwal: Honestly, something hypothetical: an outfit that magically adapts to every situation. I wouldn’t want to wear the same thing daily unless it’s a superhero suit.
Vidyut Jammwal: For a casual catch-up with friends, I’ll pair my jeans with a graphic tee and sneakers. For a date, it’s jeans with a crisp button-down shirt and loafers, maybe a blazer. For a weekend vibe, I pair them with a comfy hoodie or a gunjii and a cap.
Vidyut Jammwal: It can be hectic, sure. But my mental health care is rooted in the discipline of Indian martial arts. It’s a trained skill focusing on mindfulness, balance, and inner strength, which helps me stay centered.
Vidyut Jammwal: I enjoy social media, but my real passion lies in research and study. I invest more time in learning and exploring new ideas than scrolling through feeds. It’s more fulfilling and keeps me inspired.
