How often do men think about the Roman Empire? All you need to know about the viral trend
The trend was started by a Roman reenactor named Gaius Flavius, who posted an Instagram reel in August in which he said that women don't realise how often men think about the Roman Empire

It has been thousands of years since the Roman Empire reached its zenith and eventually collapsed, yet many men still contemplate it. More than you can imagine! A new trend, going viral on social media, encourages women to inquire about how often men think about the Roman Empire.
Reportedly, the trend was started by a Roman reenactor named Gaius Flavius, who posted an Instagram reel in August in which he said that women don’t realise how often men think about the Roman Empire. Further, he suggested that women ask “husband, boyfriend, father, or brother” because they will “be surprised by their answers.”
Since then, Flavius’ post has received approximately 2 million views with thousands of people commenting that his theory is right.
While one user wrote, “Just asked my boyfriend, he’s now talking about Roman buildings,” another commented: “My husband was talking to me about the fall of the Roman Empire at 6 am this morning before we even had coffee and says he has thought about it at least 3 or 4 times since that conversation.”

On TikTok, the hashtag #RomanEmpire currently has over 893 million views with the videos racking up lakhs of views across content creators’ pages, according to TIME. Several women are posting videos on the app asking men in their life this interesting question.
“Three times a day. There’s so much to think about,” said a woman’s fiancé. Another person answered, “Actually I was just having a conversation about their aqueducts and the fact that they had concrete that could harden. … How the hell did you know that?” adding that they think about ancient Rome “at least once a day.”
But why? The Washington Post said that historians believe that one explanation could be that Western societies have historically emphasised the aspects of Roman history that are associated with masculinity in the popular imagination.
For the unversed, the Roman Empire was one of the most influential civilisations in history, spanning from 27 BC to 476 AD. Covering vast territories across Europe, Africa, and Asia, it left an indelible mark on culture, governance, and architecture. Its eventual decline and fall remain subjects of fascination and study, offering valuable lessons in the rise and fall of great empires.
So, how often do you think about the Roman Empire?
