Revealed: An expert approved six-step method hailed as the ‘secret to never forget anything’

Attention, concentration and focus on the subject, while trying to memorise, is also important, said consultant neurologist Dr Sudhir Kumar, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad

We were really happy to know that there indeed is a simple way to sharpen our memory. As per Reiley Dunlop, a self-called smart skills coach, the secret to never forgetting anything lies in the RECALL method. “This is the secret to NEVER forget anything. Use my easy 6-step R.E.C.A.L.L method to remember EVERYTHING you read quickly and easily,” Dunlop said on Instagram.

R for Repetition

The best scientifically proven memory hack is spaced repetition. “This will combat the forgetting curve, so you NEVER forget anything you read,” said Dunlop.

E for encoding

Deep encoding is the key to building a stronger long-term memory! “Use the Feynman technique to teach others what you are trying to remember. This will help you organise information better and boost your memory,” said Dunlop.

C for chunking

Break down large amounts of information into a form that can be easily remembered! “Organise content into meaningful groups using nnemonics and acronyms like what I’ve done with ‘RECALL’ to make remembering easier,” said Dunlop.

A for active recall

Use this scientifically proven technique to learn faster and remember more of what you read. “Immediately after you study, write down everything important on a blank piece of paper,” said Dunlop.

L for Loci method

The Loci method, also known as the memory palace technique, is one of the least understood memory methods! “To use it, mentally associate what you want to remember with objects in your bedroom or house. Then, when you want to recall what you know, simply look around your bedroom or house in your mind in the exam,” shared Dunlop.

L for Liminal processing

Liminal processing is one of the most potent yet little-known methods to develop a strong memory. “To use it, immediately enter a state of deep rest after learning. You can take a short nap, meditate, or use deep breathing for 10-15 minutes,” said Dunlop.

Does the method work?

Consultant neurologist Dr Sudhir Kumar, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, concurred with the analysis and shared that these methods improve memory power and recall. “The most important of these is repetition- the more times one repeats, the longer the memory stays. Attention, concentration, and focus on the subject while trying to memorize are also important. This means one should not be distracted, and the focus should entirely be on what the person is reading/studying,” said Dr Kumar.

The RECALL method is a” mnemonic strategy designed to enhance memory retention and improve the ability to retrieve stored information”. “It operates on the principle of structured recall, encouraging individuals to actively revisit and organize information rather than passively relying on memory. This method simplifies complex data into smaller, manageable chunks, reinforcing them through periodic reviews,” said Dr Vinit Banga – director, neurology & head neurointervention, Fortis Hospital, Faridabad.

Additionally, the RECALL method promotes the formation of associations between new concepts and existing knowledge, enabling smoother retrieval, described Dr Banga. “Revisiting information in different contexts—such as reviewing it in varied environments or using different stimuli—further enhances memory flexibility, making it easier to recall the information,” said Dr Banga.

Understanding the subject matter with proper analysis is likely to help in memory consolidation and boosting long-term memory, as opposed to rote learning alone, which is helpful for shorter-term memory, such as for examinations. “Whatever is learned by rote learning is likely to be forgotten immediately after the exams,” said Dr Kumar.
