After Paris Olympics loss, PV Sindhu says ‘my body and mind’ need a ‘break’; tips to identify if you need one too

The Paris Olympics proved to be a bittersweet experience for India’s badminton star, PV Sindhu. The two-time Olympic medalist experienced a heart-wrenching defeat, bowing out in the Round of 16.

In a heartfelt social media post, Sindhu acknowledged the difficulty of accepting the defeat, and shared how “this loss is possibly one of the hardest of my long career.” The ace shuttler added, “it will take time to accept, but as life moves forward, I know I will come to terms with it.”

Sindhu’s journey to the French capital was fraught with challenges. Injuries and extended breaks from the sport tested her resilience and determination. Her candid social media post revealed the emotional toll of the defeat, a stark contrast to the typically upbeat image of a champion.

“Regarding my future, I want to be clear: I will continue, albeit after a small break. My body, and more importantly, my mind need it. However, I plan to carefully evaluate the journey ahead, finding more joy in playing the sport I love so very much,” Sindhu wrote in the end.

1. Increased Stress Levels: Notice if you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or consistently stressed. Persistent high stress can be a sign you need to pause and recharge.

2. Emotional Exhaustion: If you’re experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, irritability, or emotional numbness, it may indicate a need for a break.

3. Difficulty Concentrating: Struggling with focus or memory issues can be a sign of mental fatigue, suggesting that a break could help restore clarity.

4. Physical Symptoms: Headaches, fatigue, or changes in sleep and appetite often reflect mental strain. If these symptoms are frequent, consider taking time off.

5. Decreased Motivation: A noticeable drop in enthusiasm for work or activities you once enjoyed may signal the need for a mental health break.

6. Burnout Signs: If you feel disconnected from your work or responsibilities and find it hard to find joy in your achievements, it’s a signal to take a step back.

7. Strained Relationships: Increased irritability or conflict with friends, family, or colleagues may indicate that you’re overextended and in need of a break.
