The Barbie movie introduced a ‘Weird Barbie’ character, featuring stray marker and makeup, mismatched attire, and a playful haircut—or even no hair at all. While many of us embraced the concept of a Weird Barbie, Mattel is taking things a step further by elevating Weird Barbie into an official character.

The toy firm, which created the well-known Barbie collection, has unveiled an exclusive doll based on the Kate McKinnon character from Greta Gerwig’s hit Barbie. Barbie is sent on her voyage by McKinnon’s character in the film, played by Margot Robbie.

When Weird Barbie made her debut, Mattel declared, “If anyone knows anything about keeping it weird, it’s Weird Barbie.”

The limited-edition doll has a hot pink costume that is nearly identical to the one McKinnon wears in the film, as well as facial markings and unusually cut and coloured hair “to emulate a doll that’s been played with just a little too much,” according to Mattel in the product description. She can be seen wearing a pink dress with abstract patterns all over it and bright green snakeskin boots, much like McKinnon.

The doll is one among seven items in a larger collection inspired by the blockbuster movie, which also includes a Hot Wheels Corvette set and many Barbie and Ken dolls.

The collection has, among other items, Ken Doll, Gloria Doll, and President Doll, as well as Stereotypical Barbie’s pink gingham dress doll that Margot Robbie wears in the movie, along with a Gold Disco Jumpsuit collectable doll.

“With the latest editions to the collection, we are offering even more ways for fans to immerse themselves in Barbie Land and celebrate the characters and stories they see on screen,” Lisa McKnight, Mattel’s executive vice president and chief brand officer, said in a statement, as per CNN. “Barbie continues to be the cultural event of the summer, and as we chart Mattel’s path forward, she will continue to serve as an icon of empowerment and inspiration for generations to come.”
