Where are you from?
I am a Malayali from Ahmedabad. Although I am in advertising now, I graduated as an engineer from Laljibhai Chaturbhai Institute of Technology (LCIT) in Mehsana, Gujarat.
How did you come here and how long has it been?
I came to Mumbai five years ago to join a social media company. Given my educational background, I wanted to work in the digital space, which was exciting and new then. The social media landscape, with Twitter and Facebook, was an unexplored domain at the time.
How “outsider-friendly” do you think the city is?
On a scale of 0 to 10, I would say eight. I would have said nine if I hadn’t been called an “outsider” by my two Maharashtrian friends. But at this point, I feel at home in Mumbai, more than I ever felt in Ahmedabad. The cosmopolitan nature makes it so.
What are the changes you would like to see here?
I would like Mumbai to be cheaper. I also find it too fast. I cannot imagine growing old in the city.
What do you like about Mumbai?
There’s always stuff to do. Whatever be your interest, however niche, there will always a group of people who will share that interest. It’s never difficult to find a group to fit in with.
What are you hoping for in the future?
I hope that I can find a way to manage time and balance my professional and personal lives.
