Ganesh Chaturthi History and Importance: Ganesh Chaturthi, a Hindu festival, commemorates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the Hindu god of knowledge and wealth. Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the biggest and most significant Hindu festivals, and it is widely observed.
The Shukla Paksha of the Bhadrapada month, which on the Gregorian calendar comes in August or September, is when the event is observed, according to the Drik Panchang. Devotees will take the god’s statues to their houses on Tuesday, September 19, at 11:02 AM. Ganesh Chaturthi will last till Thursday, September 28, when the Ganesh Visarjan will take place.
The 16 forms of homage known as shhodashopachara are performed after the pranapratishtha, a rite to give the idols life, which serves to begin the worship. Recitations of Vedic songs from sacred scriptures take place as red sandalwood paste and yellow and red flowers are used to decorate the statues. Then coconut, jaggery, and 21 modaks are served to the idol.
At the conclusion of the celebration, families immerse the idols, symbolizing Ganesha’s voyage to Mount Kailash, the home of his parents, Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti/Durga, after enjoying delicious food, a festive atmosphere, and ardent idol worship.
Ganesha is considered to have been created out of clay by Goddess Durga, who then gave the idol life. She then requested him to keep watch over her quarters while she had a bath, telling him not to let anyone in. As a result, Lord Shiva had to battle Ganesha when he got home.
As a result, Lord Shiva had to battle Ganesha to see his own wife when he got home. After numerous unsuccessful efforts, Shiva became enraged and severed Ganesha’s head from his body. When Durga discovered this, she was furious and vowed to bring hell to Earth.
She declared that if it were guaranteed to her that her child would be the most adored deity and that he would be worshipped beyond all other deities, only then would she be able to let go. Lord Shiva nodded in agreement and told Nandi, his holy vehicle, to locate the head of any living thing that was around. Ganesha’s body was reattached with an elephant’s head once Nandi returned. He consequently underwent rebirth and has since been revered above and before all deities.
