Our morning habits — breakfast, workout, and skin care, among other things — play a crucial role in setting the tone for the rest of our day. As such, it’s essential to begin our day on the right note with healthy practices. Believing in something similar, Deepika Padukone recently shared what her mornings look like in a recent video shared by Tweak India.
“From snoozing the alarm for those extra 5 minutes to a wholesome south Indian breakfast, Deepika Padukone shares it all in this episode of Morning Chai,” the caption read. Watch the video here!
On being asked what’s the first thing she does upon waking up, Deepika said she goes back to sleep. “I snooze. I try not to scroll or get into my phone. My first thing is to sort of have some hot water in the morning or just some peace and quiet in the morning because usually once I am out of the door, it’s a lot of people,” she said, adding that morning time for her is “very very precious”.
As for her breakfast, the actor prefers having eggs, protein, and carbs. “So just a really wholesome breakfast. We eat idli, dosa, sambar, chutney, upma, and all of that. But not every day. We eat it not more than once a week,” Deepika said.
In addition to her inimitable style and exemplary acting skills, Deepika is also known for her dedication to fitness. But, what exercise would she do if she had only 10 minutes to spare? “I would probably do a quick cardio and stretching session, but nothing too sudden because I don’t believe in increasing your heart rate suddenly,” she answered, adding that she would practise a brisk walk, a jog, and a few yoga stretches.

Although sleep is intended to revitalise us, not every day unfolds in the same way. There are instances when we awaken in a sour state of mind and carry that irritability throughout the day. To get back on track on such days, Deepika tries to identify what is it that has thrown her off. “Because often we just go into this spiral and we are just annoyed about something. It just continues because we don’t know why we are suddenly even feeling that in the first place. Then, of course, I try to think through it, rationalise, and let go.”
Amidst our hectic schedules, a lot of us crave some me-time and a day without any appointments and deadlines. For Deepika, however, this isn’t a novelty as she has lived most of her life without anybody in the house. “It’s something that I did from the time I moved to Bombay until I got married,” she said, adding that she really enjoys cleaning and pottering around the house.
In addition to diet and fitness, paying adequate attention to skin care is equally important. “I have always believed that less is more. It’s something I have watched my mother do as well which is keeping it simple but more importantly, keeping it consistent. Hydrating my skin and using sunscreen is something that I always did. How it evolved over a period of time is the cleansing. That’s something I wasn’t very regular with in my younger days. As I got older, I realised the importance of cleansing as well,” the Piku actor said.

The one thing Deepika never forgets is taking off her makeup at night. “My husband feels I am too disciplined and he feels I need to let go sometimes. Taking off my makeup is one thing I am extremely disciplined about,” she said.
While fans may claim to know everything about Deepika, she revealed a few things during the interaction that only her close friends know. “That I am a good mimic. According to my husband, I have a great mimic hidden in the closet who has not been discovered yet. Somehow when he puts me in the spot and makes me mimic someone in front of people, it does not happen. But with my sister and my husband, I am a fantastic mimic,” she shared.
