Chaitra Navratri 2023 Day 1, Maa Shailputri Puja Vidhi: Chaitra Navratri is a significant Hindu festival celebrated in the month of Chaitra, which usually falls in March or April. The word ‘Navratri’ means nine nights, and it is a time when people worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga. The festival is observed with great fervour and devotion by Hindus all over India and some other parts of the world. Chaitra Navratri is also known as Vasant Navratri as it is celebrated during the spring season, and Vasant means spring in Sanskrit.
The festival begins on the first day of the Hindu calendar month of Chaitra and ends on the ninth day with Ram Navami, the birth anniversary of Lord Rama. During Navratri, people fast, meditate, and offer prayers to the nine forms of Goddess Durga, also known as Navadurga. The nine forms are Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri. Each day of Navratri is dedicated to one form of the Goddess, and people offer special prayers and perform rituals to seek her blessings.
This year, Chaitra Navratri begins on March 22 and will conclude on March 31.
Day 1 of the Navratras is dedicated to Maa Shailputri, who is also known as ‘Hemavati’. According to Indian mythology, she was the daughter of the Himalayas and her name is derived from two words: ‘shail’ meaning ‘mountains’ and ‘putri’ meaning ‘daughter’. The goddess in this form rides a bull, carrying a trishul (trident) in her right hand and a lotus in the left.
According to Drik Panchang, if you want to invoke the goddess and seek her blessings, you will have to chant the following mantra:
“Om Devi Shailaputryai Namah”
For the first day of Navratri on March 22, ghatasthapana muhurat, as per Drik Panchang, is from 06:23 AM to 07:32 AM. Ghatasthapana muhurat falls on the pratipada tithi which starts at 10:52 PM on March 21, 2023 and ends at 08:20 PM on March 22, 2023.
Chaitra Navratri is a time to seek the blessings of Goddess Durga, the ultimate source of energy and power. It is a time to reflect on one’s life, seek inner peace, and strengthen one’s faith in the divine. The festival brings people together, fosters unity, and reinforces the importance of spirituality and devotion in one’s life.
