Three more persons test positive for swine flu

Swine flu affected three more persons in the country today taking the total number of cases to 81.

One case each was reported from Delhi,Mumbai and Pune,a senior health ministry official today said.

In Mumbai,a 15-year old teenager,who travelled from the US and reached Delhi on June 22 and then went to Mumbai by train the next day,was tested positive.

She had complaints of fever,cough and running nose and reported to a health facility at Mumbai.

An 18-year old woman from Delhi,who was a contact of earlier positive person,has also tested positive. She had fever,cough,sore throat and nasal blockage.

In Pune,a 24-year-old man,who contracted the virus in the US,was admitted to civic Naidu hospital’s quarantined ward immediately after he reported the symptoms.

He had returned to the city on Wednesday and was referred to the hospital after he complained of throat irritation. His throat swabs sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV) tested positive yesterday.

Meanwhile,screening of inbound passengers from affected countries continues in 22 international airports. Till yesterday,51,140 passengers have been screened out of which 29,550 came from affected countries. Of the 81 positive cases,56 have been discharged.

The World Health Organisation has reported 55,867 confirmed cases of swine flu from 108 countries as on June 24.

A total of 238 deaths have also been reported.
