Flax seeds have gained immense popularity nowadays due to their numerous health benefits. However, people have been using flax seeds for centuries. These tiny seeds are nutty in flavour and are obtained from flax plants, which are full of minerals, vitamins, fibre, protein and healthy fats.

According to Richa Anand, Chief Dietician, Dr LH Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, Mumbai, flax seeds are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which helps maintain moderate blood pressure and cholesterol. The presence of omega 6 fatty acids also promotes healthy skin and boosts the immune system. Additionally, monosaturated fats present help prevent heart failure and support hormone production, cell membrane construction and brain health.

Concurring, Dr Priyanka Rohatgi, Chief Nutritionist, Apollo Hospitals said, “Flax seeds are an excellent source of dietary fibre, which can aid digestion, regulate blood sugar levels, and promote a feeling of satiety, potentially aiding in weight management. It also contains compounds called lignans, which act as antioxidants that may reduce chronic diseases like cancer and heart disease.”
