Panduri mangoes are a variety of mangoes known for their distinctive taste, aroma, and nutritional benefits, said Mohini Dogra, dietician, Narayana Superspeciality Hospital Gurugram.

These mangoes are indigenous to the southern region of India and are highly regarded for their exceptional flavour and texture, informed Dogra.

Mangoes in general have multiple health benefits. The potassium and magnesium content of the mangoes contribute to the management of blood pressure and cardiovascular health, said Ushakiran Sisodia, registered dietician and clinical nutritionist, Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai.

“Consuming Panduri mangoes can provide several health benefits due to their rich nutritional profile. Panduri mangoes are an excellent source of essential vitamins and minerals,” said Dogra.

Dogra mentioned that they are packed with vitamin C, which is vital for immune function, collagen synthesis, and antioxidant protection. “Additionally, they contain vitamin A, which promotes healthy vision, skin, and mucous membranes. The presence of dietary fibre in these can aid digestion and support a healthy digestive system,” added Dogra.

These mangoes are also a good source of antioxidants such as beta-carotene and phenolic compounds. “Antioxidants help protect the body against oxidative stress, which is associated with chronic diseases such as heart disease and certain cancers. The presence of these antioxidants in Panduri mangoes may contribute to their potential anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties,” Dogra said.

Furthermore, this variety provides a natural source of energy due to their carbohydrate content, making them a healthy snack option. “They are also low in fat and sodium, making them suitable for those aiming to maintain a balanced diet,” added Dogra.

What to keep in mind?

To enjoy the health benefits of Panduri mangoes, it is recommended to consume them as part of a varied and balanced diet. “While there is no specific daily intake recommendation, incorporating 1 to 2 servings of mangoes into your daily fruit intake can be beneficial. Remember to consider your overall dietary needs and individual health conditions when determining the appropriate amount for consumption,” said Dogra.
