Here's what happens if you eat oranges every day during winters. (Source: Pixabay) With winter’s chilly temperatures and shorter days coming up, maintaining our health becomes a top priority. Amidst the variety of seasonal fruits, the humble orange emerges as a powerful ally in fortifying our bodies against winter woes. Do you know the incredible benefits of making a daily ritual out of enjoying an orange every day during the winter season?
Dr Sanjay Kumar, consultant general physician, Cygnus Laxmi Hospital, tells indianexpress.com in an interaction that consuming oranges daily during winters can provide your body with essential nutrients like vitamin C, boosting your immune system and helping protect against colds and flu.
He added that the hydration from oranges also benefits your skin during the dry winter months. “The significant dose of vitamin C in an orange also promotes collagen production. Oranges even contain antioxidants, fibre, and various vitamins and minerals that contribute to overall health,” Dr Kumar said.
The presence of a variety of antioxidants, including flavonoids and carotenoids, helps neutralise free radicals in the body, offering protection against oxidative stress. This antioxidant-rich profile contributes to cellular health and may have long-term benefits in preventing chronic diseases.
According to Ekta Singhwal, dietician at Ujala Cygnus Group of Hospitals, regular consumption of oranges in winter can also contribute to better hydration, as they contain high water content, helping maintain optimal fluid levels in the body.

Their fibre content also aids in regulating blood sugar levels, making them beneficial for individuals with diabetes, Singhwal added.
While oranges are generally healthy, according to Dr Kumar, excessive consumption may lead to digestive issues due to their fibre content. Additionally, individuals with certain medical conditions, like citrus allergies or kidney problems, should moderate their intake.
Drawbacks may include potential dental issues due to the acidic nature of oranges, so maintaining good oral hygiene is essential, according to Singhwal.
Individuals with kidney issues may need to be cautious due to the potassium content in oranges, said Singhwal.
Dr Kumar added that people with citrus allergies should avoid daily consumption of oranges. Always consult with a healthcare professional, especially if you have specific health concerns or conditions.
