Tom Cruise not only attempts the impossible but also truly enjoys it. While he has often spoken about his love for adventure, sprinting is what brings him “real joy.” “I have always been a sprinter, my whole life. Since I was a little kid, I’ve just wanted to run. I remember, when growing up, we’d get one pair of sneakers like for a year. When I was a kid, since the feet are growing…I would take that out immediately and I felt like I can run faster…I really thought I ran fast with these new shoes. Of course, I hit every mud puddle, the cuts and all of that…So, it was something that I always loved…the feeling of sprinting,” Cruise said.
Describing the feeling, the 62-year-old The Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning star told The Project, “The feeling of the wind going past my body, the speed of it, it’s just the joy of being able to use the body in that way and push it. I have always thought of the body like a car. It’s something that I used to be able to communicate and move as an artiste in different films. Sprinting for me is real joy.”
We asked an expert how to prepare the body for it.
Dr Anup Khatri, senior consultant in orthopedics at Gleneagles Hospital, Parel, Mumbai, explained that sprinting is a high-intensity, short-distance running exercise characterised by maximum effort over a brief duration, typically 60 meters or less.
It differs from running, which encompasses longer distances at a more sustainable pace.

As a beginner in sprinting, focus on the following
*Always start with dynamic stretches and light jogging to prepare muscles and prevent injuries.
*Maintain an upright posture, with a relaxed upper body. Dr Khatri said to focus on driving your knees up and swinging your arms to propel your body forward.
* Land mid-foot and push off explosively from the ground, using your toes for maximum speed.
*Breathe rhythmically; exhale forcefully as you sprint.
*Dr Khatri said to Allow proper rest between sprints to avoid fatigue and enhance performance.
*Regular practice and proper technique will help you improve your sprinting skills safely.
