Keerthy Suresh wears madisar sari as she weds Antony Thattil in traditional Tamil ceremony; we break down her look

The couple embraced their cultural roots by marrying in a traditional Tamil Brahmin Iyengar ceremony. Keerthy donned the elegant madisar, a nine-yard sari draped in the Iyengar kattu style, while Antony complemented her in a veshti.

Speaking about the significance of the madisar, Chennai-born Tamilian Vijaya Swaminathan explained that this draping style is typically associated with post-marriage Tamil Brahmin women. It is a traditional style, with variations across South India, such as the nauvari in Maharashtra or the Telugu Brahmin drape.

Although the madisar is rarely worn daily in contemporary times, it is a prominent choice for festive and religious occasions,

Keerthy’s bridal look was accentuated by traditional Bharatanatyam jewellery, Swaminathan said, a set that includes various intricately designed ornaments:

• Armlet (Vangi): Worn on the upper arm, adding to her regal appearance.
• Attikai and Haaram: The short and long necklaces enhanced bridal elegance.
• Maanga Tikka or Netti Chutti: Forehead accessories that framed her face beautifully.
• Odiyaanam (belt): A striking addition that held the sari in place while amplifying the grandeur of her look.
• Rakkodi, Surya, and Chandra Pirai: Adornments for her hair symbolising auspiciousness and celestial blessings.

These traditional pieces reflected the cultural richness and significance of her bridal attire.

Many were surprised by Keerthy’s relationship with Antony, as the actress has always been fiercely private about her personal life. The two have been together for over 15 years, long before Keerthy made her cinematic debut in Priyadarshan’s Geethanjali in 2013.
