Other than praying and fasting for the safety and long life of husbands and fiances, Karwa Chauth also serves as one of those days where women recreate their bridal look, and if not, at least dress up in vibrant ethnic wear. Even though this may sound fun, for some it can get really difficult to stand out in the crowd.
To make your life easier, we have curated a few looks of Bollywood celebrities for inspiration. Right from Alia Bhatt’s bright chartreuse lehenga to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s gold embellished sari, Katrina Kaif’s beautiful take on red lehengas to Shilpa Shetty’s unusual ways of draping saris, here’s a compilation of some of the best ethnic outfits sported by the fashionistas.
Sonam Kapoor stepped out in a bright blue Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla lehenga set that had an old-school charm to it. Stylist Rhea Kapoor accentuated the actor’s look by accessorising it with a pair of statement earrings from Gehna Jewels.
Make-up tip: Go for bold smokey eyes and nude lips.
Shraddha Kapoor looked lovely in a lavender embellished lehenga by Kresha Bajaj.
Make-up tip: Highlight the eyes with smokey eyes.
Sophie Choudry looked amazing in a gorgeous red lehenga. that was teamed with a pair of gold earrings and matching bangles.
Make-up: Add glamour to your look by opting for bright red lips.
Karisma Kapoor looked absolutely stunning in a Sabyasachi lehenga. The green blouse was matched with a flowy floral lehenga and accessorised with an elaborate choker necklace, maang tika and a bangle on each hand.
Make-up tip: Go for a neutral make-up palette.
Kapoor also showed how to ace an all-white lehenga – by teaming it with a bright-hued dupatta and statement jhumkas.
Make-up tip: Opt for soft pink lips and a dewy make-up palette.
Malaika Arora opted for a muted coloured lehenga that was teamed with a semi-sheer dupatta draped in an unusual manner. However, it was her oversized, statement neckpiece that was the highlight of her look.
Make-up: Too much make-up will spoil the look. Keep it simple.
Katrina Kaif donned a red lehenga while attending an event and we can’t get over how beautiful she looked. From the house of Anamika Khanna, the lehenga had threadwork embroidery that muted down the flamboyancy of the outfit. We love how stylist Tanya Ghavri paired it with a pearl necklace that nested elegantly against the actor’s neck.
Make-up: Keep your make-up muted.
On another occasion, Kaif looked ethereal in a red and beige lehenga from Manish Malhotra, teamed with a red semi-sheer dupatta. Keeping her accessories and make-up minimal, she went for a diamond and ruby choker and soft wavy hairdo.
Make-up: Keep your hair open and make-up neutral.
Looking truly elegant, Alia Bhatt opted for a chartreuse lehenga featuring floral golden embroidery on it from Sabyasachi. She styled it with heavy jewellery that included a statement pearl beaded choker and maang tikka, also from Sabyasachi.
Make-up tip: Opt for nude lips to balance the bright colour.
Deepika Padukone grabbed eyeballs when she stepped out in an ivory sari by Sabyasachi. We also love the statement golden necklace, also from Sabyasachi that added a lot of elegance to her look.
Make-up tip: A minimal make-up palette will look great.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was seen in a glorious Manish Malhotra sari in gold. The heavily embellished semi-sheer creation was accessorised with a pair of gold danglers and a cocktail ring. We think giving the neckpiece a miss was a clever choice.
Make-up tip: A light palette with bold red lips will look good with this outfit.
Alia Bhatt looked splendid in a dual toned sari from Manish Malhotra. The gorgeous ensemble featured two different shades of pink with gold embroidery on the hemline. Stylist Ami Patel teamed it with a matching cut-shoulder, blouse and accessorised with a pair of statement earrings.
Make-up tip: Matching lips will complement the look.
When it comes to experimenting with a sari, nobody does it better than Shilpa Shetty Kundra. The actor pulled off an interesting look in a Shantanu and Nikhil creation that included a magenta ruffle sari teamed with an off-shoulder magenta and gold blouse. Gold earrings from Flowerchild, tousled hair styled by Sheetal Khan and make-up by Ajay Shelar rounded out the look.
Make-up tip: Dark smokey will go well with this look.
Priyanka Chopra picked a beautiful sari from Tarun Tahiliani’s collection. Draped in a lilac georgette sari that was accentuated with intricate lacework and French knot appliqué border, the actor looked lovely. We particularly like the matching deep-back blouse with embellished fringes on the sleeves.
Make-up tip: Go for bold lip shades.
Madhuri Dixit looked lovely in a bright yellow sari that she teamed with a contrasting green blouse.
Make-up tip: Bright lips will look good.
Kangana Ranaut looked resplendent in a floral print pink and white sari, worn with a matching sleeveless blouse. We like how the actor accessorised it with a Gucci glass pearl necklace with a bee embellished on it.
Make-up tip: A classic bun will add an elegant touch.
Janhvi Kapoor in an ivory and pink sari and statement jhumkas looked lovely.
Make-up tip: Opt for well-defined eyes.
Jacqueline Fernandez looked stunning in a beautiful sea green Anamika Khanna sari with feather detail all over it.
Make-up tip: Retro curls will look lovely.
