Grammys 2024: Indian fashion designers return to event

American singer Chloe Bailey wore Gaurav Gupta's Seed Olive Zardozi Gown for the Grammys, a year after Cardi B wore the designer's creation to the prestigious music awards.

Beyond the Grammys being awarded to Indian band Shakti’s album and tabla maestro Zakir Hussain for the song Pashto, Indian fashion designers continued to make waves at the global platform.

American singer Chloe Bailey walked the red carpet in a Gaurav Gupta’s Seed Olive Zardozi Gown. In the event ahead of the award night, American singer-songwriter and actor Ne-Yo also sported the designer’s Gilded Flight tuxedo.

Ahead of the award night, the hand-embroidered ‘Dragonfly in Petri Dish’ dress from Rahul Mishra’s Superhero collection was seen on singer Janelle Monae. The black strapless mini dress came with a shimmery sieve, embellished with a massive 3D dragonfly.

Hussain and singer-music composer Shankar Mahadevan picked Manish Malhotra and Sabyasachi’s creations respectively. At the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles to accept the Best Global Music Performance for Pashto, Hussain wore a white tuxedo adorned with metallic floral embroidery. Mahadevan wore a classic black bandhgala suit with off-white pants.

This isn’t the first time that a Gaurav Gupta design has marked its presence at the Grammy Awards. Last year, at the 65th Grammy Awards, rapper Cardi B caught all the eyeballs in an electric blue sculpted gown by the Indian designer.

Rahul Mishra’s design too made an appearance at the awards last year when British-Indian musician Anoushka Shankar wore a floral Rahul Mishra gown from his Fall 2022 Haute Couture collection.

Meanwhile, at the Grammys this year, five Indian musicians have grabbed the awards. The iconic tabla player Zakir Hussain bagged as many as three awards. Rakesh Chaurasia and Zakir won the award for the song Bela Flecks. Zakir also received two more Grammys along with his Shakti band members Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, and Ganesh Rajagopalan for the Best Global Music Album.
