Abhishek Bachchan reveals why he and dad Amitabh often wear 2 watches at the same time

The Bachchan family’s two-watch tradition

As per a 2011 PTI report, this unusual yet meaningful fashion choice was actually started by Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek’s mother.

“The trend of wearing two watches was started by my mom. Since I used to stay in a boarding school in Europe, she would wear two watches to keep track of both time zones. Later, dad followed the tradition, and it became a habit for our family,” said Abhishek Bachchan at the time.

Even Amitabh Bachchan has embraced this style, sometimes wearing two or even three watches. “I used to do it for fun or when I wanted some change, so I would do something amusing like this,” said Big B.

In February 2025, Abhishek celebrated his birthday in Mumbai after an ISPL match between Majhi Mumbai and Falcon Risers Hyderabad at Dadoji Kondadev Stadium. His father, Amitabh Bachchan, was present at the cake-cutting ceremony, and yet again, both were spotted wearing two watches.

For the Bachchans, what started as a practical habit—staying connected across different time zones—has now turned into a signature style statement.

Abhishek also recalled in the PTI interview how his father took the two-watch look a step further, turning it into a style icon moment during the promotions of his 2011 movie Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap. The megastar frequently wore multiple watches during public appearances, reinforcing the trend.

Even today, whether at red-carpet events, cricket matches, or movie promotions, Abhishek and Amitabh continue to sport dual watches, keeping their family tradition alive while making a bold fashion statement.
