Back in the day, exploration was a rather lucrative affair, with the likes of Hernan Cortes, Christopher Columbus and Ferdinand Magellan adding a hefty chunk to the family coffers. This would imply that Marco Polo’s family vaults must be the biggest of ’em all, and who better to find it than the Hunters in their new adventure?
The team comprises former soldier Jack Cobb, hacker Hector Garcia, master thief Sarah Ellis, sniper Josh McNutt and historian Jasmine Park, all operating under the aegis of shadowy French billionaire Jean-Marc Papineau.
Polo, having had unfettered access to the Silk Road, thanks to the patronage of Kublai Khan, amassed plenty of treasure and stashed it somewhere, before getting himself captured by the Genovese. The Hunters, who clearly believe in the philosophy of finders keepers, set out to claim it, their only clue being a journal dictated to a fellow prisoner by Polo. This is Kuzneski’s third book featuring the Hunters. Fairly taut writing, historical tourism aplenty and humour make the Hunters far more palatable than Robert Langdon, the chap with the Mickey Mouse watch. That name though!
