Mary Ann Clifton, a 108-year-old woman from Britain’s Orpington in south-east London, has some friendly advice for all. According to the centenarian, also known as Rosina, the secret to a long and happy life is a “tipple at lunchtime”. “(It’s) never done me any harm. Work hard but party harder — a bit of hard work won’t hurt you,” reported BBC.
Born on March 16, 1915, in Lambeth, south London, Clifton worked as a clothing cutter after finishing school. She then went on to join her daughter’s printing business. According to the report, she met her late husband Ernie at school when they were just 12. The pair had two children, Pamela and Bernie. Today, Rosina has four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The great-grandmother doled out the tip at a surprise tea party organised to celebrate her life by the UK’s Foxbridge House’s care team, where she was also joined by the Mayor of Bromley. On the special day, she also received a birthday telegram from the King.
The report also quoted Stella Barnes, home manager at Foxbridge House, who said that Clifton is a “much-loved and popular” resident. Barnes added that the staff worked quickly to plan the surprise party in which the King’s birthday card message was read out and enjoyed scones with jam and cream” alongside a singalong to music from the 1920s through to the 1940s.
This is not the first time a centenarian has shared some life advice.
Recently, Teresa, a 103-year-old resident of Camarillo, California, showed how sheer determination can help one achieve anything in life.
Teresa, according to a Fox 11 Los Angeles report, visits her local fitness centre at least three to four times a week – with full makeup and jewellery. Her daughter, Sheila Moore, was quoted by the outlet as calling the gym her mom’s ‘happy place’.
Born in Italy, Teresa married her late husband in 1946. “When she left Italy, she lived a vagabond life and I think curiosity was a big motivating factor,” Sheila said.
On how to live a long and happy life, Teresa said, “Try to be happy. Try to think of good things – to think everything is beautiful, to think beautiful things.”
