Justice Ashok Bhushan reappointed: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the re-appointment of Justice Ashok Bhushan, a former Judge of the Supreme Court, as the Chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

As per the order issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Justice Bhushan will hold the office until July 4, 2026.

About Justice Ashok Bhushan

Justice Bhushan, who was born in 1956 in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, obtained his law degree from Allahabad University in 1979. He enrolled as an advocate in 1979 and started his professional career with practice on the civil and original side at the Allahabad High Court.

He became a permanent Judge of the Allahabad High Court in 2001. Later, he was sworn in as the judge of Kerala High Court in 2014 and subsequently became the chief justice of the high court in 2015.

He was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court of India in 2016. He was appointed as the chairman of the Ravi Bias River Tribunal in 2020. He retired from the Supreme Court in July 2021.

In November 2021, he assumed charge as the NCLAT Chairperson for his first term.

Justice Bhushan has also served as the standing counsel of Allahabad University, State Mineral Development Corporation Limited, and several Municipal Boards, Banks & Education Institutions. He was later elected as senior vice-president of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association.

About NCLAT

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), constituted under Section 410 of the Companies Act, 2013, hears appeals against the orders of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). It also functions as the appellate tribunal to hear appeals against orders passed by both the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA).
