Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, issued an order to establish an independent commission for the appointment of teachers in various educational institutions. This move would help ensure better use of human resources, time-bound selection, and better financial restraint.

As of now, in the state, separate commissions, boards, and authorities are operating for the selection of teachers for schools and other technical education institutions.

The Chief Minister, at a meeting, said that the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission is also selecting teachers apart from the Examination Regulatory Authority, Secondary Education Service Selection Commission, and Higher Education Service Selection Commission.

The CM further added that the recruitment process for minority institutions of higher or secondary education is done through the Board of Management for minority institutions and for technical education it is done through the Board of Governance or Board of Directors for technical institutions.

‘Uttar Pradesh Siksha Seva Chayan Ayog’ (Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission) should be formed as a corporate body by giving an integrated form to teacher selection commissions’, the UP CM said in a statement.

The CM also directed the officials to develop and submit the proposal which should include the nature of the new commission and said that the qualifications, as well as the powers and functions of the members and the chairman, should be determined.

Yogi Adityanath further said that the chairman of the commission should be someone who has a vast experience in the Indian Administrative Service or is holding the post like that of the Vice Chancellor of universities. Similarly, the members of the commission should be experienced people from the education field or senior judges. The CM also said that women, minorities and people belonging to the SC/ST and OBC communities should also be represented.
