The Indian Army has commenced the online Common Entrance Exam 2023 for recruitment of Agniveers, Junior Commissioned Officers and other categories. This is the first time that the Indian Army is conducting a Computer Based Test for recruitment of Agniveers. The exam began on April 17 and will conclude on April 26.

The exams are being conducted at 375 exam centres in 176 locations across the country.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Defence stated, “the technological threshold of youth in the nation has improved significantly and with enhanced network connectivity and the proliferation of smartphones, the youth is now empowered to undertake an online exam instead of travelling long distances to appear for physical exams. The changed methodology will ensure an increased focus on the cognitive aspect during selection and prevent chances of malpractice.”

The army recently changed the recruitment procedure for Agniveers. The new recruitment procedure will be carried out in three phases. Phase 1 will be the online CEE, candidates who qualify phase 1 will appear for phase 2, the physical fitness test. Candidates shortlisted after phase 2 will appear for phase 3, medical test. After all the phases are completed, a merit list will be declared with names of successful candidates.

The recruitment procedure has been modified to make it more streamlined, transparent and ‘to optimally exploit the latest IT infrastructure available’ in the country. Online exams will have a wider outreach and reduce the crowd seen during recruitment rallies and make it more manageable.

Education Consultancy Services India Limited, a mini ratna company under the Ministry of Education is assisting the Ministry of Defence for the conduction of exams.
