Assam's INC president Angkita Dutta accused BV Srinivas of “continually” harassing her (File) Hours after Assam president of Indian Youth Congress Angkita Dutta accused organisation’s national president Srinivas B V of harassment on Tuesday, the latter issued a legal notice to her, threatening legal proceedings in absence of a public apology.
Referring to Srinivas as “sexist” and “chauvinistic”, she tweeted: “I am a woman leader. If I undergo such harassment, how am I supposed to encourage other women to join.”
In a series of tweets, she accused Srinivas of “continually” harassing her and discriminating against her on the basis of gender for six months.

She had also accused Rahul Gandhi of not initiating action despite being apprised of the matter several months ago.
She claimed that she had met Rahul during the Jammu leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra in January, and spoke to him about “mental harassment and demeaning use of language” by Srinivas.
“Despite my complaints, no inquiry has been initiated against Srinivas… I have kept quiet for months waiting for them to take action against him yet no one seems interested. Srinivas in the guise of his PR is getting away with all kinds of wrongdoings,” she stated.

Angkita is the daughter of former Assam minister Anjan Dutta who had also held the post of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president. Angkita had also contested the Assembly elections on a Congress ticket from Amguri constituency.
The legal notice, issued by Roopesh S Bhadauria, who heads the IYC’s legal cell, claimed that the allegations are “politically motivated and totally false”.
In the notice, it was alleged that her name had come up in the Sharda Chit Fund Scam and ED/PMLA cases and that she is “constantly in touch with” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He has accused her of making the allegations “to create an atmosphere of leaving the Congress to have a closure of these cases”.
He also maintained that Dutta made “baseless claims” against Srinivas on multiple occasions, without the “slightest of proofs”.
Bhadauria sought a statement of apology from Dutta on social media and to relatives of Srinivas upon receipt of the notice, “failing which legal proceedings will be initiated against her”.
