Uttarakhand Tunnel News Highlights (November 29): The 41 workers who were rescued after a 400-hour operation from the Silkyara tunnel yesterday are currently being kept under observation at AIIMS Rishikesh. The workers were brought to AIIMS-Rishikesh by a Chinook helicopter this afternoon. An official at AIIMS-Rishikesh said they were undergoing a detailed examination of health parameters. Their mental health will also be checked, he said adding they were being kept under observation. The workers were initially kept under medical observation at a hospital in Chinyalisaur after their evacuation on Tuesday night. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami met and enquired about the health of rescued workers at the health centre today and handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to each of them. He also announced a Rs 50,000 reward for each of the rat-hole mining experts who took part in the rescue operation. Capping an operation that lasted over 400 hours, rescuers managed to reach 41 workers trapped in the Uttarkashi tunnel since November 12. It was a test of grit and perseverance – for men on both sides of the 57 metres of debris – as the rescue operation suffered one setback after another. In the end, with the drilling machine giving way, it was miners who dug through the last 12 metres and reached the trapped men. Soon after the workers were rescued, PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with the 41 workers, during which he praised the workers for sticking around with each other as they waited patiently for the rescue team to reach them.
