The women were flung into the air upon impact, CCTV footage of the accident shows (PTI)A man who police said was “in a hurry to deliver a cake for his friend’s birthday” allegedly drove a BMW car into a scooter, killing two young women, in Indore on Saturday night.
The man was allegedly speeding and driving in the wrong direction at around 11.30 pm Saturday when the crash happened in the Khajrana area, after which he fled the scene with his car, police said Sunday. He was later arrested.
The women who died in the incident were Lakshmi Tomar (24) and Diksha Jadon (25), who were returning home on the scooter after attending the Khajrana Ganesh temple fair, police said.
ACP Kundan Mandloi told The Indian Express that Lakshmi was from Shivpuri and that her father had died last year. “She had been supporting her family by working in Indore. After receiving news of the accident, her entire family has left for Indore,” he said.

Diksha, originally from Gwalior, was working at an Indore-based public sector bank, police said.
A case was registered against the accused under BNS section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
“According to eyewitnesses, a BMW car rammed into the scooter. Due to the impact, both women were thrown onto the road, sustaining critical injuries. They were rushed to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to their injuries,” said Khajrana police station in-charge Manoj Singh Sendhav.
ACP Mandloi said, “The police acted promptly and arrested the driver of the BMW, Gajendra Pratap Singh (28), who is from Gwalior, and was living in Suncity, Indore. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was in a hurry to deliver a cake for his friend’s birthday, which is why he drove in the wrong direction.”
In the initial interrogation, the accused said he had bought the car second-hand a while ago and works at a BPO in Indore, police said.
