(Image: X)Over 93 per cent newly elected presidents of the Tripura BJP’s mandal committees, or Assembly constituency-level committees, are fresh faces, a party leader said on Monday.
Samarendra Chandra Deb said that 56 out of the 60 mandal presidents are new faces, adding that two of them are women, 23 per cent are tribals, 18 per cent are from Scheduled Castes, and 36 per cent are from the general category.
The revamp is touted to be an effort to restructure the party organisation from the ground up and infuse fresh blood into it, thereby cementing the ruling BJP’s ambitions for stronger governments in the future.
Deb said that BJP district presidents would be elected by the first week of January 2025, before the election of the state president. The party has 10 organisational districts in the state.
“The maximum age to participate in the election of the mandal president is 45 years. Those who have completed two terms as mandal president cannot take part in the election. The party ensured that candidates from all sections participate in the mandal president elections,” he said.

BJP Lok Sabha MP and former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said, “Those who were elected should work abiding by the rules and guidelines of the party. Apart from party work, the mandal presidents should work for the people to ensure that government benefits reach them. If they don’t work properly, they will be replaced.”
