Later in the day, incumbent CM Nayab Singh Saini also confirmed that the oath-taking will take place at the Dusshera ground in Panchkula Sector 5 at 10 am on October 17.
The BJP had indicated during campaigning for the assembly election that Saini, who replaced Manohar Lal Khattar as CM in March, would be its choice for the top post if the party won. The BJP ended up with its best-ever haul of 48 seats, 11 more than the Congress. The JJP and AAP were decimated and the INLD managed to win just two seats.
Earlier, the Haryana government had mentioned October 15 as the date for the swearing-in ceremony in Panchkula. However, Saini’s close aides had mentioned that they were awaiting confirmation on Modi’s availability.
Asked about the priorities of the new government, Khattar said that the first meeting of the new Cabinet would discuss the party’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ in which the BJP had made poll promises. “It has been the BJP’s tradition, it has delivered what it has promised,” he said.
