Recognising the sacrifices made by ancestors to achieve independence, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat Friday said a lot hard work is required to keep this “alive” and to take it forward.
Bhagwat, who hoisted the national flag at the RSS office in Bhubaneswar, said India is a unique country that strives to bring peace and happiness to the world and to share its “dharma” with others.
“Our independent country has a special task towards the world, which is faltering in view of the numerous emerging problems. Despite many experiments for around 2,000 years, the solutions to the problems haven’t been found yet. It’s our duty to provide the world with a solution and create a new world filled with happiness and peace as per our vision rooted in religious principles,” he said.
The RSS chief’s statement came not long after Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Sangh from the ramparts of the Red Fort, calling it the world’s largest non-governmental organisation and lauding its 100-year journey.
The RSS chief said India needs to emerge as a “vishwa guru” (global leader) to guide the world on how to deal with problems.
“There are environmental issues and quarrels across the world. Under such a situation, it’s India’s duty to guide others, resolve issues and make the world peaceful and prosperous,” he said.
“We need to remember our duty today and resolve to make small changes the way RSS pracharaks talk about panch parivartan (five-fold transformation). We need to proceed with these small resolves to bring changes in society, country and the world,” said Bhagwat.
Noting that “swatantra” (independence) is a combination of two words – “swa” (self) and “tantra” (governance), Bhagwat said the country has become independent and people are now running the government.
The RSS chief said the reason we became independent was to ensure that everyone in our country could attain happiness, courage, security, peace and respect.
