Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat arrived in Tripura on Thursday on a five-day visit and headed to Seva Dham, an ashram run by the RSS at Khayerpur on the outskirts of Agartala.

Bhagwat, who has visited the state several times including once in 2022 and in 2017, is scheduled to address a training programme for RSS trainees, pracharaks and activists from the eight Northeast states, sources said.

The 20-day training programme, attended by 152 trainees, 30 teachers and 40 workers, started on May 18 and is led by RSS Northeast zonal chief U Chakraborty, a source said.

The training programme mostly deals with promoting the RSS’s ideology of nationalism among people, including youths and professionals. His visit comes ahead of the counting of votes in the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for June 4.

Security has been tightened at Seva Dham, where Bhagwat is staying. Bhagwat held a series of organisational meetings in Tripura during his visit in 2022. In 2018 he addressed a meeting of RSS workers hailing from the eight Northeast states.

During a visit in 2017, when the Left Front ruled Tripura, Bhagwat urged Hindus to join RSS shakhas, which according to him were the only places where one could learn about nation-building and self-development.
