Four people were killed and 24 injured in a road accident when a roadways bus fell into a 1,500 ft deep gorge in the Bhimtal’s saldi area in Uttarakhand’s Nainital on Wednesday.
“Four deaths have been confirmed and CM has directed to ensure utmost care of those injured. Two trauma experts have been called from AIIMS Rishikesh,” Kumaon Division Commissioner Deepak Rawat said.
The bus, which was traveling from Almora to Haldwani, had 27 passengers on board when driver lost control, leading to the accident.
Relief and rescue operations have been launched with the help of locals, Bhowali Circle Officer Sumit Pandey said, adding that 15 ambulances have also arrived from Haldwani. Those injured are being rushed to the Community Health Centre in Bhimtal, he said.
Fire department and SDRF teams are also at the spot.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed grief over the accident and instructed the district administration to carry out the relief and rescue operations expeditiously.
In a video posted by PTI, passengers can be seen holding onto a rope as they climb out of the ditch.
