Resident doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna have launched an indefinite protest against the MLA from Sheohar, Chetan Anand, accusing him, his wife Dr Ayushi Singh, and their armed guards of forcibly entering the hospital premises and assaulting security personnel and threatening resident doctors.
In a formal letter addressed to the Medical Superintendent, dated July 31 (Thursday), the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) expressed “deep anguish and growing concern” and announced the immediate shutdown of all elective services by resident doctors. At 9 am on Friday, they proceeded with the “complete shutdown of all emergency services” in response to the purported inaction on their demands.
According to the RDA, JD(U) leader Anand, his wife and their armed security guards forcibly entered the Trauma Centre around 11 pm on July 30. The association claimed in the letter that the group “physically assaulted hospital security staff, brandished a firearm within hospital grounds, and threatened resident doctors with death”.

They further alleged that one of the security guards was “struck with the butt of a firearm”, leading to injuries. Resident doctors also said they were subjected to “abuse and threats” while on duty.
The RDA condemned what it described as a “failure to act” by both the hospital administration and the police. “Despite the seriousness of this incident, there has been no FIR filed, and the administration has taken no decisive legal or institutional action to protect its staff or pursue justice,” read the letter.
Patna City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap had said in a press conference earlier in the week, “Information was received about abuse, scuffle, and misbehaviour between two parties at AIIMS hospital at Phulwarisharif police station, on the intervening night of July 30 and 31. One party is Dr Ayushi Singh, who has submitted a complaint to the Phulwarisharif police station, alleging abuse and misconduct by some AIIMS doctors and staff. An FIR is being registered on her behalf and further action is underway. The AIIMS administration has also submitted an application, and an FIR will be lodged accordingly. The police have initiated an investigation, and action will be taken based on the facts that emerge.” He did not respond to calls and messages seeking an update on the action taken.
The doctors, meanwhile, said that the lack of action had created “a climate of fear and helplessness” among healthcare professionals at the institute.
The RDA has presented four key demands, including immediate registration of an FIR against Anand, Dr Ayushi, and their guards. They have also asked for a formal written assurance and public condemnation of the incident by the hospital administration. In addition, they are demanding the deployment of adequate and permanent security personnel within the hospital, along with the implementation of lasting security protocols to protect healthcare staff on duty.
Earlier, Anand, an RJD-turned-JD(U) legislator, had told PTI that both he and his wife were mistreated by hospital staff when they went to visit a supporter admitted at the facility.
“My wife and I had gone to see one of my supporters admitted at AIIMS on Wednesday night. I was not allowed to enter the hospital with my security guard. This prompted my wife to intervene,” he said.
“At that moment, other staff members came and started misbehaving with my wife. They literally thrashed her. I had to intervene. My wife sustained injuries to her wrist and back. I was also held hostage by the staff for some time,” he alleged.
